Broward Health, led by FC100 member Shane Strum, helped launch the new Maternity Care Center and Heart Community Resource Center in Lauderdale Lakes last May to expand access to care for women in underserved communities.
Expanding Access to Maternity Care in Underserved Communities
Nearly one year after its launch, Broward Health’s new Maternity Care Center in Lauderdale Lakes has far surpassed expectations. Originally projected to serve 200 patients, the center has already provided care to more than 1,700 women, highlighting the urgent need for accessible maternal healthcare in the community.
The center is located in a region where disparities in pregnancy outcomes are significant, especially among women in zip codes 33311 and 33313. By addressing barriers like transportation, childcare, and language access, the center is improving maternal health outcomes in one of Florida’s most underserved areas.
This initiative is furthering the efforts of The Florida Council of 100’s Healthy Florida Committee to expand primary care access and reduce health disparities in underserved parts of the state.
