Babcock Ranch, developed by FC100 member Syd Kitson, is a shining example of resilience in action. Built to endure Florida’s most severe storms, this 18,000-acre solar-powered community combines smart infrastructure and elevated design to protect residents and ensure long-term livability. Even during Hurricane Ian, one of the most destructive storms in Florida’s history, Babcock Ranch remained fully operational, proving that proactive planning works.
As the founder and visionary behind Kitson & Partners, the organization behind Babcock Ranch, Syd’s leadership shows how thoughtful planning and innovation can help increase Florida’s resilience. From preserving thousands of acres of natural habitat to investing in solar energy and storm-resilient utilities, every element of the community reflects a deep commitment to this pursuit.
This effort supports The Florida Council of 100’s strategic focus on increasing the state’s resilience and we are thankful for the leadership of members like Syd.
